Yesterday I was looking at http://www.lostandfound.com/ and I thought, it can be improved a bit and can be commercialized too. First let us discuss about lostandfound.com features.

There are basically four things that we report there:
1. Report Lost Item.
2. Report Found Item.
3. Search For Lost Items.
4. Search for Found Items

It is not a local area website which is one disadvantage of this website. I think we can try to make it locally and more personalize. Well if you are making it locally then the first question that arises is how much traffic will it generate? I am not much clear about the figures but if I have to guess. I would guess it around 2000-3000 stuffs daily in a state like delhi. So if you are mapping whole country, guess the numbers. Secondly, I don't think there is any popular website in this field.

Commercial Point of View:
Everyday lots of companies party, weddings etc are held. We loose lots of our stuff in a party and we hardly care to find it back. This is because we don't have any medium. You can't ask everybody about your lost stuff. How about asking the host to take care of these things. Now you won't have to do anything. Just log in and list your lost items. Now it will be your host reponsibility to find it. May be providing this service will add more reponslblity to owner and thus pride too.

We can also implement it at school level. Children loose a lot of stuff in school too.
